But hey, ya win some, ya lose some. And sharing this piece among my fellow artists is a win. 
The shading on the rug and pillows were the biggest challenge that somehow turned out better than expected. So good things all in all.

Wow. You did an exceptional job with this illustration. Upon first laying eyes on this I can tell you spent a lot of time and effort on it. Where to start on this lovely piece? Well, the coloring is wonderfully vibrant and lively. So many colors pop out at you yet do so without being overbearing or hard on the eyes, never detracting from the art. In fact, to me, that is what makes this piece so nice…how vividly colored it is. The gold, blues, and purples all balance in stylishly.
This piece is also well-detailed. You said in your description that the rugs and pillows were the most difficult to shade. I say your hard work certainly paved off, for they are nicely detailed, with all the ruffles, waves, and creases in them. The greenery from outside the window is also detailed well, as is, in fact, the window itself. I can go on about how wonderfully detailed this piece is but here is where I’ll stop.
I like the expression of the prince here. I know nothing of this series nor its characters, but it would seem to me that he is not exactly enthusiastic about his role? Dunno, I am probably wrong.
All in all, a magnificent piece of work! I am honestly quite surprise you didn’t win. But hey, you created a great piece of artwork and you should be proud of that alone.
